Street Battle outside Elwyn and Liz’s House
Elwyn Williams in Mozambique writes:
Saturday morning we were surrounded by gunfire for 4 hours. We had the guards to lock us into the house and shut up everything to try and secure our lives. The Military police were dispatched early hours of the morning into different areas of Chimoio after people had been attacked, robbed, and murdered by an organised group of criminals.
Many people lost their lives, in one house were the bandits gained entry when they would not give them the money they had in the house, they murdered a mother and young daughter,.
Because the police have been slow to do anything about the criminal activity in Chimoio the people living in the town started to stone the police station. This produced major problems in the city on Saturday as many of the shops were closed and roads barricaded by the military police.
The police set out to apprehend the criminals, which then led to a massive shoot out by our house and other homes near us.
The situation is calm at present but the problem and the tension is high. Please make this a matter of prayer us
1. Protection Liz and myself
2. Other missionaries
3. The authorities so deal with the criminal activity
4. Peace to be restored.
5. The families who have lost loved ones and been seriously injured.
