Flooding in the Lower Shire
Alan Skene in Malawi writes
Since we arrived in Malawi we have become used to heavy rainfall during the months November – March. However, 2008 has really been a difficult year so far with extreme rainfall over large areas of the country.

This Sunday (27th January) we witnessed the results of the rainfall in the far South of Malawi where the rivers have not been able to contain the water and flooding has occurred in some areas. The problem for the Malawians is that their homes in this area are made of mud and grass and the flooding has destroyed their homes and the food supplies they were storing inside.
Our Pastor in the Nchalo District is reporting that at least 100 Apostolic families’ homes are affected and that the people are asking for help with food.
The knock on effect will be that their gardens (fields) have been lost and this will mean little or no harvest this year. Harvest is in April and we will be able assess the real situation nearer that time.
The AO Board has actioned £2000 aid to support the Malawian people affected by the flooding.
