Malawi
Alan and Sandra Skene
Hi from Alan and Sandra Skene in Malawi, Southern Africa. Sandra and I have been married for almost 22 years and for the last four of those we have been living and working in Malawi.
After Pastoring in our home town of Kirkcaldy, Scotland for seven years, we were thrilled to be asked to come to Malawi and accepted the call with peace in our hearts. Coming to Malawi has been a wonderful experience for us – we have learned much about God, ourselves, and the difficulties (and pleasures) of working in a different culture – and we still have a lot to learn on all counts!!!
Location
Since arriving in July 2000, we have lived in Blantyre where there is a Training Centre that can accommodate up to 30 students.
In the early days of the work in Malawi there were only a few churches, mainly located in the far South of the country. Since then the mission has spread through all the 5 regions and there are now 203 churches, which come under the care of 14 pastors. Some of these churches are in locations that have to be seen to be believed! In many ways the work here is still a young work so we remain involved in the various ongoing projects.
Activities and Responsibilities
• Bible College training of potential future Church Leaders.
• Training for Children’s Workers.
• Extensive building programme of churches with the aim of constructing a main church for each district.
• Humanitarian projects including food aid, and a nutrition programme for children under the age of five years old.
• Networking with other groups concerned with the development/aid work. We see tackling these issues as an important part of our ministry and value all prayer support for bringing about change in these areas.
